Taming the Beast: Five Tips to Curb Your Cravings

Taming the Beast: Five Tips to Curb Your Cravings

When you want it, you want it—and that’s the problem. No one can argue with the fact that certain foods are delicious, but eating them in excess can lead to weight gain and health problems. In this article, we’ll show you five ways to manage your cravings so you can enjoy your favorite food in moderation, without going overboard on calories or blowing your diet.

Get moving
Research shows that even a short burst of activity can help curb cravings. So, the next time you’re hit with a strong urge to eat, try going for a quick walk or doing some jumping jacks. The key is to get your body moving and your blood flowing.

Think about what you’re craving
We’ve all been there before. You’re minding your own business, going about your day when all of the sudden…BAM! A craving hits you like a ton of bricks. Whether it’s for something sweet, salty, or crunchy, these cravings can be hard to resist. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are five tips to help tame those pesky cravings

Try an alternative
When a craving hits, try distracting yourself with an activity or reaching for a healthy alternative instead of your usual go-to. It might take a little extra effort at first, but eventually you’ll be able to retrain your brain to crave healthier options. Here are five tips to get you started:

  1. Get moving. A quick walk or jog can help take your mind off of your cravings and also help reduce stress, which can trigger cravings.
  2. Drink plenty of water.

Drink Water
When you’re feeling a craving coming on, drink a glass of water first. Sometimes we think we’re hungry when we’re really just thirsty, so giving your body what it needs may help to stave off the craving. Plus, water will help you feel fuller and may prevent you from overeating.

Change your routine

  1. If you find yourself snacking more often than you’d like, take a look at your daily routine. Are you eating at the same time every day? Boredom or habit can lead to cravings, so try shaking up your schedule.
  2. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep and managing stress levels. Lack of sleep and high stress can increase cravings for sugary and fatty foods.
