Losing hope can seem like the most natural response to the pain of losing someone you love, and when that person is your child, it can feel impossible to find reasons to go on living. After my 17-year-old son died in 2011, I felt exactly that way. But I’m here to tell you that there are many reasons to live after you lose someone you love, and they can bring new meaning and joy to your life if you’re willing to seek them out.
1) Don’t be afraid to lose hope
Losing hope can feel like the end of the world, but it doesn’t have to be. Sometimes, losing hope is what we need to do in order to find a new beginning. Here are 8 reasons why you should never lose hope:
- Losing hope means giving up on yourself and your dreams.
- Losing hope can lead to depression and other mental health issues.
- Losing hope can make you feel isolated and alone.
2) The best things are free
The best things in life are free, and that’s especially true when it comes to the little things. A smile from a stranger. A compliment from a friend. The warmth of the sun on your face. These are the things that make life worth living, and they’re all free.
3) Inspiration will come
Inspiration is what we live for. It’s what gets us up in the morning and keeps us going when things get tough. It’s what drives us to be better. And it’s something that can be found anywhere and everywhere. So never give up, because you never know when or where inspiration will strike.
4) Music is your friend
When you’re feeling down, music can be a great way to boost your mood. Listening to upbeat tunes can help you feel more positive and motivated, and can even give you a mental boost. And if you’re feeling really low, blasting some of your favorite songs can help you get out of your funk.
5) Pain only lasts as long as you allow it
No one wants to feel pain, but the truth is that it’s a part of life. And while it might seem like pain lasts forever when you’re in the moment, it doesn’t. It eventually fades away. That’s why it’s important to keep going even when things are tough. Because eventually, the pain will go away and you’ll be glad you didn’t give up.
