Why Do Women Have Periods?

Why Do Women Have Periods?

You might think you know why women have periods, but what if you’re wrong? What if there’s an actual biological reason behind it? It turns out that there’s an unexpected answer to the question of why women have periods, and the truth may surprise you…

Introduction
For years, the answer to why women have periods has been simple: to prepare the body for pregnancy. But new research suggests that there may be another reason why women experience this monthly occurrence.

Menstruation 101
Most people know that women have periods because they need to release the egg each month. However, there are other reasons why women have periods. The first reason is that the egg needs nutrients to survive. The second reason is that the egg needs protection from the outside world. The third reason is that the egg needs a place to grow. The fourth reason is that the egg needs to be able to move. The fifth and final reason is that the egg needs to be able to communicate with the body.

Estrogen Levels During Menstruation
The level of estrogen in a woman’s body varies throughout her menstrual cycle. During the first half of the cycle, estrogen levels are low. They begin to rise during ovulation and peak just before menstruation. This rise in estrogen levels causes the lining of the uterus to thicken in preparation for a possible pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, the thickened lining is shed during menstruation.

Estrogen Levels During Pregnancy
When a woman becomes pregnant, her estrogen levels begin to rise. This increase in estrogen causes the lining of the uterus to thicken, which is necessary for a healthy pregnancy. However, this thickened uterine lining also makes it more difficult for the egg to implant itself, and so the body sheds this excess lining each month through menstruation.

Ovulation
When a woman ovulates, her body releases an egg from her ovary. The egg travels down the fallopian tube, where it may be fertilized by a sperm. If the egg is not fertilized, it dissolves and is shed along with the lining of the uterus during menstruation.

How Did we Evolve Menstrual Periods?
For years, scientists have been trying to figure out why women have menstrual periods. The most popular theory was that it was a way for the body to get rid of extra iron. But new research has found that this isn’t the case. So why do women have periods? It turns out, it’s all about reproduction.
